Improper Payments To Skilled Nursing Facilities Cost Medicare $1.5 Billion In 2009

The Office of Inspector General for the U.S. Department of Health and Human  Services recently  conducted a study that identified errors in 25 percent of the claims submitted by skilled nursing facilities in 2009, resulting in $1.5 billion in inappropriate Medicare payments.  Most of these improper claims were due to upcoding.
